Why Unit Price Is Not Your Cost
A factory quotes you a unit price. What leaves your bank account per unit is that price plus ocean or air freight, the duty your HS code attracts, cargo insurance, and customs broker and handling fees. Price off the quote and you can win the order and lose the margin.

Landed cost is the total cost of getting one unit from the factory floor to your warehouse door. It is the unit price plus freight, duty, insurance, and customs broker and handling fees, divided across the units in the shipment.
This calculator covers goods value, freight, customs duty, cargo insurance, and broker and handling fees. It does not include your domestic warehousing, returns, payment processing, or marketing costs, which sit downstream of import.
For most importers it runs 20 to 60% above the unit price. The spread is driven by the duty rate your HS code attracts, how dense and heavy the product is relative to its value, and how small the order is, because freight is charged per shipment and spreads over fewer units.
Enter the all-in rate that applies to your goods, not just the base rate from the tariff schedule. A product can carry a general rate plus a Section 301 rate plus any other additional duty in force, and those stack on the same customs value. If you are not certain what your product attracts, we will classify it for you.
Use an ex-works or FOB unit price and let the calculator add freight and duty. A DDP price already contains freight and duty, so entering it and then adding them again double-counts. If you only have a DDP quote, the goods value field is the one to use and you can leave freight and duty at zero.
Freight and broker fees are charged per shipment, so they divide across whatever quantity travels. Halve the order and the freight per unit doubles. This is the single biggest reason a small trial order looks unprofitable next to a full container.
It is as accurate as the numbers you put in. Freight rates move by lane and by season, and duty depends on your exact HS classification and country of origin.
